First of all, did you know that everyone has an endocannabinoid system in their body? This system is to regulate cannabinoids, which come from two sources. Our body produces naturally occuring endocannabinoids, and the cannabis plant produces phytocannabinoids.
Just what is the endocannabinoid system?
Simply put, the endocannabinoid system is responsible for maintaining homeostasis in the body. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Homeostasis is: “any self-regulating process by which biological systems tend to maintain stability. While adjusting to conditions that are optimal for survival. If homeostasis is successful, life continues, if unsuccessful, disaster or death ensues.” Wow, I never knew homeostasis was so vitally important!
ECS consists of three parts:
- Cannabinoids as explained above, are naturally produced by the body or from phytocannabinoids. Phyto meaning plants.
- Endocannabinoid receptors are found throughout our body on the surface of cells in the brain, organs, tissues and glands.
- Metabolic enzymes act like a guard dog to destroy endocannabinoids when they are used up and no longer useful.
Recent Discovery
Generally speaking the discovery of an endocannabinoid system is relatively new. Discovered in the 1990’s by researchers, investigating how and why cannabis was relieving pain and nausea in cancer patients. So with less than 30 years of research, the endocannabinoid system is one of the least studied systems in the body. No doubt the restrictions on cannabis research limits what scientists can do. Restrictions that are prohibiting a complete understanding on how our ECS works.
Furthermore Dr. Ethan Russo states, “If we look at any aspect of how our bodies work, our physiology, you’ve got some element of the ECS that affects it. So it is a key modulator of what we call homeostasis, that’s a natural balance in the body. When someone uses cannabis medicinally they are keying into these natural mechanisms. Which sometimes are deficient and need supplementation.” Obviously an Aha moment for me when I first read that quote!
CBD and the endocannabinoid system(ECS)
Obviously CBD oil is the choice for relief without the “high”. Also CBD oil binds with both the CB1 and CB2 receptors along with the TRPV-1. Which is responsible for regulating body temperature, pain and inflammation. Likewise it is also known for counteracting the effects of THC. Also activating serotonin receptors, and inhibiting a gene attributed to several cancers.
More importantly CBD oils have gained such popularity and use, demonstrates to me that countless people have found relief! Undoubtedly by supplementing what their body is deficient in.
Take charge of your health!
To be sure the ECS is a huge part of the human body that we are just beginning to understand. Until now it has been overlooked in the medical community. It definitely needs to become a part of medical school education. Also we need to push our government to let our research scientists explore the full potential this can offer to our Health!!!
CBD Oil to conquer the opioid problem
No doubt Big Pharma does not want this to happen. But ask yourself why do we have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) in our body if cannabis was not meant to help us. Remember homeostasis is life and we need CBD oil to regulate it!! Above all CBD Oil does control pain and inflammation! It may not happen overnight but it does happen usually within days.
