Burger worthy of a Steakhouse

To be sure everyone loves a grilled burger but now the consensus seems to be we should restrict our consumption of beef. Bummer huh. So if I am going to splurge on burger, it will be a burger worthy of a steakhouse!!

No doubt when I saw this recipe featured on the Wine and Dine Show I wasted no time in getting the recipe and trying it out!! Even more my family and I loved it! Especially paired with the RRR Ricord Merlot! Admittedly we have enjoyed every recipe shared on the Wine and Dine Show because they are easy to prepare and delicious!!

So, here is what you will need to make 10 burgers:

  • 2 pieces white sandwich bread, crusts removed and torn or cut into pieces
  • 1/3 cup low fat milk
  • 2-1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1½ Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 lbs lean ground beef
  • 3 scallions, finely sliced (optional)
  • Non-flammable cooking spray to grease grill
  • 10 hamburger buns
  •

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the grill to high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bread and milk together with a fork until it forms a chunky paste. Add the salt, pepper, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup and mix well.
  3. Add the ground beef and scallions and break the meat up with your hands. Gently mix everything together until just combined. Do not over-mix.
  4. Divide the mixture into ten equal portions and form loose balls. Flatten the balls into 3/4-inch patties about 4-1/2 inches around. Form a slight depression in the center of each patty to prevent the burgers from puffing up on the grill.
  5. Grease the grill with non-flammable cooking spray. You should grill the burgers, covered, until your desired level of doneness is reached. Flip once during cooking process.
  6. Before serving, toast the buns on the cooler side of the grill if desired

The (uncooked) burgers can be frozen for up to three months. (Freeze the burgers on a baking sheet or plate so their shape sets, then transfer them to a freezer bag for easy storage.) You will need to defrost the burgers overnight in the refrigerator prior to grilling.
