Obviously you are wondering what is this all about! So let me tell you that a turkey roasted in a paper bag will be moist and juicy!!! Also the days of basting and keeping an “eye” on it are over!! Besides that the turkey will brown up beautifully, a truly worthy presentation turkey!!

More importantly this is time tested and failproof. Because I have been roasting my turkey in a paper bag for 45 years now!! To be sure when using this roasting technique you will receive many compliments and questions!! Unquestionably they will ask what is your “secret”, why is your turkey so moist and delicious!!

Easy Prep for turkey in a bag

Of course you want to know how this works, right. So this is easy the pre-prep is exactly the same for any poultry preparation.

  • Rinse and pat dry your bird, especially the cavity if you are stuffing it
  • Spray the entire bird with Pam inside and out
  • Stuff cavity and put an orange in neck cavity (this will release steam to keep breast moist)
  • Spray the entire inside of the bag with Pam
  • Slide the turkey into bag, you may need an extra pair of hands to hold the bag open
  • Spray your roasting pan with Pam. Lay a sheet of foil 1/2 down length of pan and leave a tail of foil about 12″ outside of pan. This is to seal the paper bag  (see above picture)
  • Place bagged turkey into roasting pan, pinch opening of bag together as tight as you can, grab your foil tail up and seal the bag by “scrunching” it closed tightly. If it is a big turkey I will also place a piece of foil width wise to secure the length piece of foil.
  • Roast turkey at 350 degrees for the first hour, then lower temperature to 325 degrees for the remaining time suggested on instructions. For example the above turkey was 15.59 pounds. The directions on the bag stated 3 1/2 hours to 4 hours if stuffed. So 350 first hour and 325 for the remaining 3 hours. A stuffed turkey takes longer to roast and I go with the longer time because I know my turkey will not be dry!!

Never baste a turkey again!!

Certainly Thanksgiving is the time for family and friends, so enjoy them!! By not having to run into the kitchen to baste and check on your turkey, one less thing to do. Also what I love about roasting my turkey this way, when it is done and I pull it out of the oven I can just throw a beach towel over the whole thing to keep warm and rest. So the oven is free to bake the rolls or whatever last minute things need attending to!! Nice.

Furthermore it is nice so I can socialize and share in the wonderful wines from my wine of the month club. While waiting on the turkey we enjoy a glass or two before dinner and with dinner!! LOL Even more it is so convenient to have on hand and share good times with family and friends!! Also every dinner is enhanced with a fine delicious wine! Sound interesting?  So get your cheer here!

Fantastic Finish Every Time!!

So without further ado, here is what your turkey will look like! And will be moist and delicious!! Bon Appetit!!!

Above all enjoy your time spent with family and friends!! Also visit my page on a wonderful soup I make. By pressure cooking the carcass to make the most delicious and rich broth base.

P.S. When I started roasting my turkey this way, grocery bags were an everyday occurrence. So I just found a great size durable and recycled kraft paper bag on Amazon. I really like the size 12″x 17″x 7″ deep, because the bag I used above was only 11/12″x 14″x 7″ deep. The larger size bag will allow for a better seal. I got 100 bags for $26.00 because I rather use recycled paper than plastic for everyday use!! Just wanted you to know!!
