It should be noted that until a few months ago I had never heard of a Blue Scorpion!! Especially the fact that numerous products are available now that contain ingredients extracted from blue scorpion venom!! Due to this recent development I thought I would share some blue scorpion facts.

For instance why the name?? While doing my research I have come across various names that are used. Such as the Caribbean Blue Scorpion and in Cuba they call it escorpión azul, which means blue scorpion.

In addition to habitating in the Caribbean and Cuba, they are also found in Africa mainly in Gabon and Cameroon. Blue scorpions are a rarity in Europe, and they are only found in the Americas as “pets”. (what is wrong with a puppy!!!)

Although there are many species of scorpions throughout the world. Many of them exist in near desert conditions. The blue scorpions natural habitat is forests or areas with lush foliage. They make their nests under leaves, fallen timber or stones.

Generally speaking their diet consists of insects, spiders, other scorpions and very small rodents. Blue scorpions can go without food for long periods of time, but must have water almost daily to survive.

Namely the scorpion species is in the order of Scorpiones, under the class Arachnida. Thus making them very distant cousins to spiders. But a blue scorpions lifespan is much longer three to five years. Some other scorpions can live ten to fifteen years.

Is Scorpion Venom Fatal?

Even though the motion picture industry almost always depicts scorpions as an encounter with death; generally speaking the venom is not fatal. With over 2000 species only 30 have venom potent enough that may cause death. Unfortunately Arizona has the bark scorpion which is definitely one to stay away from!!!

Without a doubt being a mother is a tough rewarding job, a labor of love!!! Definitely being a scorpion mom SUCKS!!!! Because when she feels her youngsters are in need of nutrition, she sacrifices herself to them. Consequently she will press her body onto her young and they will suck out her insides. OMG!! While consuming her they will also inject her with venom, mercifully causing her a quick death. As a result mommy dearest carcass will provide additional nutrition in the weeks to come. Where in the world is daddy when you need him!!!!

Okay enough drama!! As I stated above blue scorpion venom is being used in many new products.
